Upgrading a Waterfront Penthouse with a Discreet Dolby Atmos Home Cinema

Retrofitting additional in-ceiling speakers, new cabling infrastructure, and disciplined cable management within a completed residence

The homeowner wanted more than simply better sound. The objective was to create a genuine cinematic experience while preserving the clean architectural appearance of the penthouse, ensuring that neither the technology nor the installation detracted from the residence's spectacular waterfront outlook.

When the system is in use, the room transforms into an immersive Dolby Atmos home cinema capable of delivering cinematic-scale entertainment.

When not in use, the technology largely disappears from view.

The projection screen retracts out of sight, while the in-ceiling speaker system remains discreetly integrated within the architecture, allowing the space to function as an elegant waterfront living environment rather than a dedicated theatre room.

This project demonstrates how high-performance cinema technology can be successfully integrated into luxury residences without allowing equipment to dominate the interior design.

The Challenge

The residence already contained a conventional floorstanding speaker system, but the homeowner wanted a more immersive and refined cinema experience without introducing visible equipment throughout the room. The challenge was therefore twofold:

The challenge was therefore threefold:

  • Upgrade the space to a properly engineered Dolby Atmos home cinema system.
  • Ensure the technology remained as visually discreet as possible when not in use.
  • Deliver uncompromised audio performance through professionally designed wired infrastructure

As the residence had already been completed, introducing additional in-ceiling speakers and cabling infrastructure required careful planning, disciplined installation practices and rigorous cable management.

The Result

The completed installation transformed the existing floorstanding speaker system into a purpose-built Krix Dolby Atmos home theatre with immersive three-dimensional audio.

Despite the complexity of the retrofit, the technology remains largely hidden from view. When not in use, the projection screen retracts completely and the in-ceiling loudspeakers blend discreetly into the architecture, allowing the space to function as an elegant luxury living environment.

The result is a high-performance home theatre that delivers cinematic immersion without compromising the aesthetics, functionality or waterfront views of the penthouse.
